Can I kiss while wearing braces?

You may have heard of stories about people kissing and getting their braces stuck together. This may make you a little more nervous about getting braces but the fact is this is not very common at all.

Orthodontics has advanced and with modern braces, kissing with braces is something you don’t have to worry about.

Follow these helpful tips to help make your kiss go smooth while wearing braces.

  1. First tip, kiss with your mouth closed. Go slow. Get familiar with being in sync with what is happening. It’s super unlikely your braces will snag, but going slow will prevent a snag on the tongue or lip.

  2. Use wax if you have to. This will help any area that may feel rough or too bumpy.

  3. Don’t go into your kiss rough. Think about pressure. Ease off of forceful pressure just so you don’t hurt the other person with your braces or yourself.

  4. When it comes to kissing, your main concern should be your breath. Having braces heightens the risk for food and bacteria to get trapped in your brackets and wires. While on your date, carry a toothbrush or water bottle to brush or rinse with when you can so you have a good experience with kissing.

In conclusion, it’s okay to kiss while wearing braces. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Dr. Cajee’s office today!
